RMA components prove stable in the first hydrogen feed-in plant in Hohenwart, Lower Bavaria
On November 23, 2023, Denis Lustig and Sabine Dues from RMA Rheinau visited the hydrogen feed-in plant in Hohenwart near Ingolstadt as part of the TransHyDE Safe Infrastructure project. The first feed-in plant for hydrogen was ceremoniously put into operation on September 14, 2023. Since then, hydrogen has been flowing through the distribution network and is used to heat 10 households and a commercial enterprise. RMA Rheinau supplied components such as rotary meters, house entries and distribution boxes.

“We are very proud to be writing hydrogen history together as a partner of Energie Südbayern, Energienetze Bayern and Thüga AG,” say Sabine Dues and Denis Lustig, project managers at RMA Rheinau in the TransHyDE Secure Infrastructure project.
RMA is coordinating this 4-year BMBF project.

Hydrogen – a key element of the energy transition
The conversion of gas grids from natural gas to hydrogen is now technically feasible.
“Many RMA components are already H2-ready,” says Andreas Truttenbach, Managing Director of RMA Rheinau. “In addition, nothing stands in the way of the success of the hydrogen economy with the development of the H2 test bench for gas meters,” Andreas Truttenbach continues. The special highlight is the location of the H2 test bench: it is located opposite the natural gas test bench in a hall on the RMA company premises in Rheinau, and the two test benches together form the TwinLoop. Gas meters for both gases can thus be adjusted quickly, efficiently and safely – a combination that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
Commitment to the energy transition
RMA has been committed to a successful energy transition for several years now. The family-owned company, with around 900 employees, already designs, produces and sells 100% hydrogen-compatible products as well as components and system solutions for hydrogen, water, oil, gas and district heating at its sites in Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East.
About TransHyDE Safe Infrastructure Project
TransHyDE is one of three hydrogen lighthouse projects of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). It evaluates and tests solutions for hydrogen transportation infrastructure.
